ORA-00093: _shared_pool_reserved_min_alloc must be between 4000 and 0

The Problem

11:16:06 SQL> startup
ORA-01078: failure in processing system parameters
ORA-00093: _shared_pool_reserved_min_alloc must be between 4000 and 0

The Cause

The parameters were not configured correctly for Automatic Memory Management. Ensure that your SGA_TARGET and SGA_MAX_SIZE parameters are configured correctly and appropriately for the server. In addition, check values for SHARED_POOL_SIZE, DB_CACHE_SIZE, etc. Make sure that the numbers tally up correctly.

I also found that I had switched to using a PFILE from an SPFILE in order to try and resolve this issue. By creating the PFILE I was able to easily edit the configuration settings in a text editor and try a restart. If you are doing this make sure that you are specifying the PFILE at instance startup using STARTUP PFILE='<location_to_pfile>’.
